Besides reading the tutorials on the internet, I highly recommend getting two books:
Called “The Second Book of GO”, which is a very concise and reasonably priced book that will take you from introductory strategy to elementary strategy.
Then the next book is called “Graded Go Problems for Beginners”, once you complete this book you should have understanding enough to take you roughly to 20 kyu, which is a nice ten kyu jump for beginners.
There is a famous go saying that no one understands GO until they have played 1,000 games, and I can speak from experience that this is completely true. I was a dabbler in the game for a very long time, then I started playing regularly, and then one day things just became cohesive, and I actually had a sense of the space on the board, and a feel for the moves, I checked my game count and I had played 1098 games. So Practice Practice Practice, play as often as you can, because the light bulb just comes on after a certain point. Thrash away at it till then.
